Making 2009 Sparkle: March

February without alcohol was surprisingly easy, I really didn’t miss it in the slightest. Sure, there were times when people around me were drinking drinks I really enjoy and I rather wanted to join in, but I didn’t miss the effects of the alcohol, just the taste, the same as passing an Indian restaurant and really wanting a curry. I’ve only lost a few pounds, but it’s a start, which brings me on to March’s Making 2009 Sparkle challenge.

I need to start exercising. Dieting is great, but without exercise it doesn’t work well for very long. Spring is in the air, my energy levels are starting to rise and it’s the perfect time to start trying to get fit! A colleague is bringing me a gym schedule tomorrow and I’m planning on going to a few spinning classes if they fit into my schedule. I don’t have a definitive plan of what I’m going to do yet, but I’ll see as I go, depending on what’s available. At the very least I’ll start doing exercise DVDs at home, and possibly get a gym ball – I really need to tone up my core muscles.

So, who’s going to join me in getting a head start on our fitness levels before the summer gets here?

  • I love being outside in the Spring, so I’m going to make more effort to walk the 3 mile journey to Uni every day. I rejected it during the treacherous snow and haven’t recovered!

  • I would love to get some exercise in… but I’m just too lazy. And gyms scare me, ever since I fell off a running machine.
I might however get a yoga DVD so I can do that in the comfort of my own home.

  • I love my fit ball (I’m thinking it’s the same thing as a fit ball?) Biking and running are also great ways to get and stay in shape! Good luck on your quest for fitness!

  • Have been slacking this summer… “way too hot” my excuse :)

  • That sounds really great. I may do a no-alcohol challenge myself at some point. I’m actually about to post in a few days about my March challenge which is also exercise! So hopefully we’ll both get through :D

  • I went to Target on Monday and saw all the bathing suits out and decided it was time for me to get back on track with getting fit as well. I went to yoga yesterday, and I am SORE! today haha. I love that though, the soreness of a job well done, a work out well worked out. I’m actually really excited about getting back into my gym time and getting fit again.

  • [...] Exercise! Although I’ve already covered this with my Making 2009 Sparkle post for March, now is a great time to get back into an exercise routine after the winter slump. Don’t waste [...]

  • The best piece of advice I ever got given about exercise (and i applies to loads of other things too) was about motivating yourself to do it if the novelty has worn off. Tell yourself that you only have to do five minutes/300 seconds. Tell yourself that if you still feel too tired after that you’ll go back to bed/slumping in front of the TV/eating too much toast. What you’ll actually discover is that it’s the first few minutesthat take the most effort; after that you’ll feel too good to stop.
