Sick Days

Having been off work for a few days with what I have almost convinced myself is flu (highly unlikely since I had the vaccine last week so it’s far more likely to simply be a bad cold), I’ve had a bit of time on my hands. Instead of spending it doing something productive however (and I wasn’t feeling so bad that I couldn’t write for example), I spent it entrenched in my own illness coping process.

  • Wrapped up in thick sweaters with messy hair, not really caring what I look like.
  • Watching comedy shows online to cheer myself up.
  • Resting lots.
  • Spending far more time in the shower than usual, as the steam makes me feel better.
  • Taking every anti-cold drug I can get my hands on that won’t kill me when combined with the other anti-cold drugs I’ve already taken!

I’ve never been one of those people who can work through an illness, going to the office, probably infecting everyone else and “soldiering on” with little or no pharmaceutical assistance. I can understand going into work if you don’t get paid leave, but I don’t think I’ll ever understand people who would rather suffer than take non-addictive, occasional over-the-counter remedies when they’re feeling really bad!

How about you? Do you get on with things even though you’re ill, or do you take a few days to wallow at home and recover slowly?

  • I seem to get ill really easily and will take time off if I feel really rough especially as I have a train journey and then a 20 min walk into work- but I always feel so guilty taking sick days! Do you? I always feel like people think I’m faking it haha, especially as some people never ever take them. I always feel the need to overplay my illness on the phone!

Lots of people at work are ill with colds at the moment and it’s just spread ridiculously quick- even the healthiest ones are being knocked down!

  • Hope you feel better! I think I’m coming down with a cold myself… :-( Bring on the meds!

  • Ooh, hope you are better soon! It might be the vaccine making you sick, my vague memories of Biology GCSE (that doesn’t involve talking about the Renford Rejects) are surfacing here!

  • im all about sick days where you’re not actually sick :D ps: feel better lovely!

  • Oh, I’m definitely a wallower if it’s winter or fall, but warm weather? I get outside despite feeling like an escapee from hell. Sunshine makes me guilty if I’m not enjoying it… but snuggling up in sweaters with hot tea and bad movies/food are my favorite ways of coping. Feel better!

  • Oh, I wallow! I try to be productive, but I can’t focus and then I feel guilty for getting sick and not taking care of myself enough. Sheesh. Like being sick isn’t bad enough.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • Every time anyone I know gets the flu shot they get the cold straight after.. I think that’s what the shot does actually. Gives you a small dose of the cold. Not fun feel better soon doll X
