In my quest for a more healthy lifestyle I’ve been reading about super-foods a lot recently. They’re hardly a new thing, with frequent articles in the press about the amazing antioxidant properties of goji berries, and how we should all be sprinkling flax seed on our breakfast cereal. But what do you think about super-foods?
Personally, I love them! Some of my favourite foods show up on the various super foods lists, particularly avocados, pomegranates, almonds, garlic, tea and cocoa. I totally love Kimchi, which is apparently one of the world’s healthiest foods, and I’m not averse to a glass of red wine every so often, but the only real obstacle to superfood heaven is the two boys I live with, who seem to despise most healthy ingredients! If I can get them to eat something green once in a while it’s only after much protestation, and whilst they’re perfectly happy to have stews and chilis filled with garlic, I have to sneak dark chocolate into the latter because they complain if they see me do it!
What do you think of super-foods? Are you a junk food addict, a casual almond-nibbler or an all-out obsessive checking the nutritional content of everything you eat type? Do you find having to cook with others stops you from eating as healthily as you should?

Kimchi is amazing! I swear it’s the best food ever and you can eat it with almost anything. It totally pays to have a Korean mother.
I will definitely have to read up on these super foods. I’ve been wanting to eat healthier but I’m not really sure how yet. I want healthy but tasty at the same time. Guess it’s a good thing I like garlic.
I love kimchi! I think super-foods are kinda over-rated, such as the goji berries, the super green powders, protein powders, and etc. Any of those dried and dehydrated amazon foods the press totes as super foods. BUT I don’t know much about them other than that it is “so good for you body”, so I should stop saying my opinion hehe. XD
And yes, I have tried to eat healthy, but I live with my parents and my family eats the western/korean way so it is really hard to stay on track. No one is supporting you [my mom yells at me I am wasting money on organic foods...T__T] and you get bomb rated by all the good smelling food!
Pardon my ignorance, but what IS kimchi? I’ve always been curious, because whenever I go to buy sushi, I always see ”tofu & kimchi” and it looks so interesting, but I have NO idea what it is!
I’m definitely pro super foods! I try and eat as healthy as possible
I think if I ever go to Korea I’ll come back huge – such delicious food, I’d just eat my way around the country!
@ Corrine – it’s basically pickled vegetables, but the most common type (i.e. the stuff we get in jars in supermarkets outside of Korea) is usually cabbage and radish flavoured with garlic and lots of chilli and pepper. It’s really yummy, yesterday I just ate it over rice with chopped tomatoes for lunch!
I’ve been on acai products for 2 months now and besides the fact that I’m losing weight my energy level is also way higher. I found some reviews and free samples of acai berry diet at http://www.acai.ekaranga.com/acai1.php you should check it out.
