A good Sunday for me starts with waking up naturally, not because of an alarm, loud kids in the street or a steam train from the nearby heritage railway whistling, but because my body has had enough sleep and I’m ready to face the day. I make a cup of coffee to wake my brain up and whilst the Senseo machine is heating up, brush my teeth and freshen up, deciding to have a shower later since by now the central heating has switched off, and I’d rather have a warm bathroom.
I switch some music on whilst checking my email, reading a few blog posts and drinking coffee (usually accompanied by something to eat, often far too unhealthy for breakfast – today it was half a bag of Haribo Tangfastics, this is a habit I really need to break). The Boy and I tend to do our own thing on Sundays, he plays a lot of video games, (I enjoy them too, but don’t put in the hours he does) whilst I have work for my course to do, posts to write, books to read and films to watch. Studying may not be everyones’ idea of a good time, but getting some work done improves my day immeasurably when I’m not feeling guilty that evening for “wasting” the weekend.
Sometimes I may even go out and buy a Sunday newspaper, though not as often now as I used to. I realised that I was only really reading a couple of the supplements, then cluttering up my room / the living room with a pile of paper I would then forget to throw out for far too long!
I usually have a shower and wash my hair around 4, and get dressed in something comfortable I can lounge around the house in. Around 6:30 we usually start deciding what we’re going to eat for dinner, which usually includes phoning our other housemate if he’s out, to find out if he’s going to be back in time to eat, and we usually cook something in time for around 8pm, watch a couple of TV episodes or a movie, then I go to bed nice and early so I can get up for work in the morning.
Thinking about it, my Sundays probably sound quite boring, but to me it’s the best way to spend the day!
How do you spend your ideal Sunday?

Sundays are invariably chilled out. I make it a manner of principle that I take off at least Sunday morning (unless it’s the weekend before exams, in which case, I do at least hvae a lie-in). I’ll stay in bed for a little while, then get up and amble, making a “special” cup of tea or coffee (from loose leaves or from ground beans) then look at my Google Reader and the Sunday supplements Life and Style sections online.
Today I went to Wandsworth Common with a friend, where we perused books in independent shops and had smoothies and walked around. It was lovely. I’m now contemplating the week ahead, doing a smidge of work to get back into it and baking some caramel shortbread. This is not a typical Sunday, but the relaxed ambience of the day is what I aim for.
A good Sunday is when I don’t have to rush around!
@ Claire, that sounds lovely, and caramel shortbread is always rather wonderful!
Oh, now I’m dreaming of a Sunday like that!
p.s. I like what you did with the layout
Thank you! I’m still tweaking it in places, but I *much* prefer the columns how they are now!
