Wishes for 2011

Resolutions don’t work for me. As with many people I imagine, when I make them, I strive to keep them for a few weeks, then start forgetting. Eventually, a couple of months down the line, I look back over them and end up chastising myself for not sticking to them. Not. Healthy.

This year, I’ve decided to make wishes instead. These constitute what I want from 2011, and can hopefully realistically achieve with a determination and a stroke of good luck or two.

This year I want to achieve:

* Weight Loss – I figured I might as well start with the most clichéd of all! I don’t have a “goal weight” or anything like that, but I do need to eat less junk, exercise more, and right the flab until I start to feel fit again. The weight I’m at right now is not healthy for me, and I can feel it all the time.

* Work “Progress” – If you’d told me this time last year that I’d still be in the same job now, I’d have probably fallen into something resembling a spiral of despair. Right now however, my poorly-paid but “safe” job is much better than many people far more qualified than me have to pay the bills with, so I really don’t have much to complain about. That’s not to say I’m giving up the job hunt however, 2011 is going to be a year for gaining experience and brushing up on all the skills I’ll need when the economy (hopefully) starts to get a little better, but if I find an amazing new work opportunity along the way, all the better! I think it’s important not to let things stagnate, but I won’t be making any rash decisions either.

* Learn Some New Things – Not just skills for work, but all the other skills I’ve wanted to learn for a long time. A few that spring to mind (all of which I’ve mentioned here from time to time but never really started) include sewing, photography, mineral make-up formulation, proper web design with code and stuff (I learned html and CSS years ago, but wouldn’t know where to start now), etc. There’s always something new to learn!

* Read – I’ve been reading much more since I received my Kindle, and I intend to continue this habit well into this year.

* Blogging Goals – These include:

* Writing more regularly, with more original content (i.e. not inspired by others – I’ve never reposted anything another blogger has written, and never would unless it was for a very specific cause such as raising awareness for something, and the article was written to be reposted).

* Photos, photos, photos! I need to post more!

* Create business cards etc. and try to promote the blog.

* Host giveaways (more about this soon!)

* Keep up with my blog-reading – I’ve managed to get quite behind as of late!

* Comment more on other peoples’ blogs! This will of course be aided by my keeping up to date with the blogs I read, as I feel better about leaving a comment if 12 other people haven’t already said exactly the same thing 2 days earlier!

What are your plans and goals for the year ahead? Whatever they are, I wish you all the luck in the world achieving them, and I hope 2011 is an amazing year for you all!
